Downtown Houston is the center of Houston, TX and it revolves around the Interstates area. The main areas of high interest are I-10, I-45, and Highway 59. There are tall skyscrapers that rise from the ground and make a powerful statement. Old Enron Tower is impressive and it is one of the landmarks in the area.
The building was taken by Brookfield Properties Corporation in 2006. Afterwards they rented the whole place to Chevron. Moreover, Continental Airlines headquarters is there downtown as well. In addition, the Metro Light Rail is also nice. This rail goes from the North side to the Texas Medical Center, all the way in the southern part.
Each day of the week, it transports about 40,000 passengers. Houston Rockets plus Houston Astros are in the area. The Astros park was once named Enron Field. But then the company went bankruptcy and the park’s name was changed. Just off from the Texas Avenue you will find the lovely Verizon Wireless Theatre. It is a very beautiful place, a small venue indoors, used for concerts and other events. There are few places, but that is why the place is popular, because it is so private and nice. But it is a nice location comparable with areas like the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion.
You should know that during the 2004 Super Bowl that area had major constructions. The roads were cleared and rebuilt and new shops were opened. But in September 2008 the eye of Hurricane Ike passed right over many areas, including downtown Houston. Many constructions were affected, especially the ones made of glass. After that the streets looked really bad and fires were all over the city. But little by little the downtown area was reconstructed and now it looks really good, a perfect place to live in.
